The Health Research Board, in partnership with the Department of Health, was delighted to welcome you to the first “Advancing alcohol research in Ireland” conference. The conference brought together experts in the field of alcohol research to discuss evidence-based policy, existing and proposed legislation governing alcohol use, availability, and related harms. We learnt about policy monitoring in other jurisdictions, and the importance of research that is trusted and independent. This event also provided practical information on how to use the HRB’s National Drugs Library and on potential sources of funding for research.

The following posters from the conference can be viewed at https://www.drugsandalcohol.ie/39561/

  • A survey of Irish health care, social care, and education professionals knowledge, attitudes and experience of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)
  • Calling time on pre natal alcohol exposure: time to screen for alcohol in pregnancy
  • Association of alcohol per capita with national, regional, and global prevalence of alcohol use during pregnancy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
  • An evidence review on effective interventions and approaches in the delivery of integrated alcohol services in community settings
  • Factors associated with public awareness of the relationship between alcohol use and breast cancer risk
  • Have restrictions on alcohol advertising in Ireland affected awareness among adults? A comparative observational study using non-probability repeat cross-sectional surveys
  • Adolescent binge drinking in the west of Ireland: associated risk and protective factors
  • Who is responsible? Risk factors for heavy episodic drinking in adolescent girls in Ireland: A cross-sectional secondary analysis of Planet Youth Study in North Dublin, Cavan, and Monaghan regions
