The number of Australians who die from drug overdose each year continues its long-term rise, with over 38,000 drug-induced deaths since 2002. Australia’s Annual Overdose Report 2024 presents a wide range of detailed data on these deaths, with a focus on unintentional drug-induced deaths.1 As there are far more non-fatal than fatal drug overdoses in Australia every year, this report also presents a snapshot of non-fatal drug- and alcohol-related harm (including non-fatal overdose).
