In 2017, the percentage of potential years of life lost (PYLL) from selected alcohol related causes were

above average for females (397.3 per 100,000 population, National 298.2) and also above average for males (1,216.9 per 100,000, National 1006.1).

In 2017, Clare had below average hospital admission rates for mental and behaviour disorders due to alcohol (46.1 per 100,000 population, National 83.7) and below average for alcoholic liver disease (14.6 per 100,000, National 36.5).

In 2017, Clare was below average for Psychiatric in-patient rates for alcohol disorders for first admissions (3.98 per 100,000 population, National 9.2) and average for all admissions (26.9 per 100,000, National 24.1).
