In 2017, Tipperary North had the highest rate nationally for mortality for all ages due to alcohol related causes (71.1 per 100,000 population, compared to a National rate of 58.6 per 100,000) Tipperary South was above average for alcohol related mortality (66.2 per 100,000 population, National 58.6).

In 2017, the percentage of potential years of life lost (PYLL)per 100,000 from selected alcohol related causes are average for females in Tipperary South (298.3 per 100,000 population, National 298.2) and the highest nationally in Tipperary North (381.3 per 100,000 population, National 298.2) and for males are the highest nationally in Tipperary North and above average in Tipperary South (North 1,571.60, per 100,000 population, South 1,491.50, National 1006.10).

In 2017, Tipperary was above average for hospital admission rate per 100,000 for mental and behaviour disorders due to alcohol (122.8, National 83.74) and above average for alcoholic liver disease, (59.92, National 36.48).

In 2017, Tipperary North was above average for psychiatric in-patient rates for alcohol disorders for first admissions (22.9 per 100,000 population, National 9.2) and average for all admissions (28.1 per 100,000, National 24.1) whereas Tipperary South was above average for first admissions (11.5 per 100,000 population) and below average for all admissions (13.6 per 100,000).

In 2017, Tipperary had above average alcohol treatment rates at 210.9 per 100,000 (National153.2).

In January 2019, Tipperary County ranked 7th for the number of liquor licenses with 350.35 per 100,000 population (National 273.13).
