311.  Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Justice and Law Reform  further to Parliamentary Question No. 286 of 10 November 2009, the progress made following his meeting with the Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie MLA, on developing a joint North-South initiative to tackle alcohol promotions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3925/11]  

Minister for Justice and Law Reform (Deputy Brendan Smith): In October last, Mr Alex Attwood, MLA, Minister for Social Development in Northern Ireland, launched a public consultation on alcohol promotions. The consultation process concluded in December. Joint discussions on an all-island initiative to tackle price-based alcohol promotions are continuing. Contacts are taking place at official level to prepare for a meeting of the respective Ministers in due course.
