Objectives

Community Reinforcement Approach Family Training (CRAFT) is an evidence-based treatment programme for family members of people who alcohol and drugs.. CRAFT is designed to increase the chances of the substance user entering into treatment as well as improving the lives of the family members. CRAFT grew out of the understanding that although individuals who need help with substance use problems are often don’t want to avail of treatment, their family members are typically highly motivated to get help for them. However, families often have not been given the appropriate tools to support them in helping a loved one into treatment.

Participants will focus on improving their own well-being while also feel empowered to use their new-learned skills and techniques to increase their loved one’s likelihood to enter treatment.

Content

This is a 7 week course, held for an hour (11-12 noon) every Tuesday from March 1st.

It will empower the participants with tools and skills that have been proven to be beneficial in increasing the chances of a person who uses substances engaging in treatment (counselling, support, rehabilitation, etc). Skills include communication, problem solving skills and reinforcement of positive behaviour, while also looking at ways of improving the well-being of the participant.

Target Group

Family members of people who use substances, who are wanting to increase the chances of their loved one entering into treatment, while also improving their own well-being. If there is a history of, or current ongoing violence or control within the relationship, please contact Maria Powers (0876955557) before registering for this course. This is to optimise the safety of participants.
