Objectives

Community Addiction Studies will be delivered via Zoom in 2023. The course will be delivered over 8 two-hour sessions and 8 one-hour discussion groups. There will also be 2 weeks of self-directed learning where participants will be encouraged to independently study and research. Participants will be asked to submit various pieces of work in order to meet the necessary learning outcomes.

Content

During the course participants will be offered the opportunity to learn more about many drug and alcohol related topics such as

  • Types of drugs and their effects
  • The role the media plays in the publics understanding of drug related issues
  • The impacts of addiction on family members
  • The types of services being offered to people who use drugs
  • The types of interventions used with people who use drugs and their family members
  • Policy options that different countries use And more…
Target Group

This course is mainly aimed at people who are already working in support services, healthcare, education or any setting which may bring them into contact with individuals who use substances or family members of people who use substances. The course aims to assist people in becoming more confident in their knowledge of approaches to take and relevant services when assisting or supporting these individuals.

Entry Requirement

This training is for those living in the West of Ireland, though we will accept trainees from outside the west.
