Objectives

Knowledge of psychology informs our understanding of ourselves and others, and develops our capacity and skills to support those in our communities who are marginalised, disadvantaged or face challenges in everyday life. This advanced course investigates societal issues including disability, mental health and addiction and explores the interventions and infrastructure, both statutory and voluntary in their approaches that support wellbeing and rehabilitation.

Content

This course shifts to raising personal and interpersonal awareness and the development of our own behaviour and attitudes that influence our role in social systems and structures in the work place, community and societal contexts. Students will be trained and equipped with the knowledge and insight to develop and manage relationships within the work environment and this forms an integral developmental process on this course.

Applied Psychology in Society supports progression for those who are interested in pursuing Psychology or its affiliated fields in higher education and work in the community and voluntary sector. The applications of Psychology, its concepts and theories are embedded throughout this exciting and innovative course.

Target Group

Learning outcomes: On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competencies to work independently and or take responsibility for the work of others in providing a range of services in a social and vocational rehabilitation context and or to progress to higher education and training.

The successful completion of the QQI Level 6 award in Social and Vocational Integration will enable applicants to work independently and or take responsibility for the work of others in providing a range of services in a social and vocational rehabilitation context.

Entry Requirement
  • Education: NFQ Level 5 in a relevant discipline when accessing a Level 6 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
  • Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
  • Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.
