Putting the Pieces Together is a training manual that was developed by the WRDATF to harness an integrated approach to working with young people, parents and communities on the subject of drugs and alcohol. This blended learning programme will train people in the use and content of the manual. It aims is to act as a guide and a resource for persons working with young people of mixed abilities in an out-of-school setting.
On completion of the course participants will receive a copy of the manual via the post.
12 hours total (8 via zoom sessions and remainder self directed learning)
To explore and challenge attitudes in relation to substance use
To enhance knowledge and understanding of substance use
To explore how drugs affect the brain and elicit their effects To develop skills in delivering drugs and alcohol education
To develop an understanding of Best Practice in substance use education
To develop skills in relation to talking to young people about substance use
To give an introduction into the use of brief interventions
To develop an understanding of how to use the resource Putting the Pieces Together
To develop an awareness of services available locally and nationally
Knowledge of up-to-date information concerning substance use Capacity to provide an holistic approach in substance awareness/prevention education To deliver an awareness/prevention course encompassing issues of self-esteem, mental/sexual health, relationships and skills such as communications/decision making.
Individuals who intend to complete Putting the Pieces Together awareness/prevention courses with young people within organisations and groups in out-of-school settings. (either online or in-person)

The course will be facilitate by Neil Wilson & Gillian Conway, Education Support Workers funded by the Western Region Drug & Alcohol Task Force. Neil & Gillian have facilitated Putting the Pieces Together courses since the manual was launched and are very experienced trainers.
