This course aims to introduce participants to symptoms, assessment and brief psychosocial intervention for common mental health problems
On completion of the course participants will be able to:
• Summarise the main mental health conditions
• Describe the most prominent mental health presentations
• Identify common mental health problems
• Provide a screening assessment for depression and anxiety disorders
• Offer brief supportive interventions to people experiencing mental health challenges
• Overview of Mental Health conditions
• Introduction to depression, anxiety, psychosis & personality disorder
• Carrying out screening assessment for depression and anxiety
• Brief psychological interventions for common mental health problems
• Applying course learning to daily practice
This course is for those working in or supporting people with drug or alcohol problems, or those working in a supportive role who wish to increase their knowledge of mental health conditions, screening and interventions for common mental health problems.
Trainer Profile:
Dr James O’Shea is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. He is a an experienced psychotherapist, CBT therapist, clinical supervisor and educator. He is a former director of nursing and midwifery education, director and national lead for mental health nurse education, and director of the national addiction training programme with the Irish health service (HSE). He has worked in the areas of mental health, counselling, psychotherapy and health service education for over three decades.
