Naloxone is a prescription medication which has the potential to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose (e.g. Heroin, methadone & codeine) and can help to keep the person alive until an ambulance arrives. The aim of the training is to enable workers to diagnose and treat suspected opioid overdose and to supply and administer Naloxone in emergency situations competently and safely. It is advised that only those workers who have successfully completed the training on CPR may undertake the Diagnosis and Treatment of Suspected Narcotic (i.e. Opioid) Overdose and the Supply and Administration of Naloxone Programme.

This training is for staff in services supporting opiode users as well as family members who wish to learn more and be able to respond in an overdose situation.
This training is for those living in the West of Ireland, though we will accept trainees from outside the west who are willing to travel to training.

The WRDATF Family Support Workers are Naloxone trainers as part of the national HSE roll out of the Naloxone training programme.
