This article reviews existing literature on the social environments and parental care provided to children of drug users, and on the developmental outcomes for this group. This paper also provides pointers to gaps and shortcomings that need to be addressed in future research. There is a focus on parental addiction to "hard drugs," such as opiates and cocaine.
