This report evaluates an arrest referral scheme, run on a pilot basis in Dublin's north inner city since 2002. The scheme aims to divert young drug offenders away from drug use and drug-related crime by offering them referral, assessment and treatment on their arrest. It sets a precedent in establishing formal co-operation between the health services and the Gardai on drug-related crime. The report calls for 'urgently needed' government funding to ensure the enhancement and expansion of the arrest referral scheme
