This report set out to assess the needs of carers who take on the role of caring for the children of drug users, especially members of an extend family such as grandparents, through a series of consultations with carers across Dublin.
The report shows that there was a general sense of helplessness and isolation for carers and that geographical location had an impact on access to entitlements and services. Legal issues and difficulties such as custody and guardianship and this was often compounded by the lack of practical support and information. Other issues such as the entitlement of carers for the Orphan's Allowance, was also noted.
