This conference highlighted the role of family support networks in combating the drugs problem in Ireland. As families have first hand knowledge of the effects of drugs, they need to be seen in partners, along with community workers, drug users and statutory agencies. One of the issues arising from the conference is the lack of provision for families; for example the National Drugs Strategy does not address them. The discussions from this conference provide key information for the future and highlights the need to circulate information among family support groups.
