The South Inner City Drugs Task Force is responsible for coordinating community groups and drug treatment projects in South Dublin Inner City. Some 12% of Dublin's drug addicts reside in a catchment area which suffers from severe social disadvantage. None of the twenty wards scoring less than 6 on the Rank Factor Score. 75% of the wards are in the top 20%, indicating severe deprivation. The nature and extent of the drug problem was examined. It was found to be normalised in some pockets. The approaches to treatment and rehabilitation outlined attempt to take into account the social context in which an individual's addiction occurs.
