Ballymun Youth Action Project. (2001) "Pathways to Change." A seminar designed to look at responses to young people caught in the cycle of harmful drug use in the Ballymun area. Report of Proceedings. In: Pathways to Change, 22nd November 2001, Axis Centre, Ballymun.

This seminar brought together a number people to discuss how the problem of drug misuse affects young people within the Ballymun community. The aim of the seminar was to help to develop a systematic approach to assisting young people. This entailed: identifying the reality of the current situation; identifying the needs faced by young people; and, identifying possible ways of developing a future response. Information contained in a number of prevalence reports was presented to the seminar and workshops dealing with several aspects of the current situation were conducted. These covered issues relating to the types of drugs available, homelessness, and the effect of Ballymun's regeneration programme. The subject of needs was addressed in a presentation on the experience of the Ballymun Senior Comprehensive Retention Programme and a number of workshops examined a number of individual case studies and the type of options available to young people seeking to deal with drugs-related problems.

A number of findings from the seminar are listed. The need to integrate the work of locally based services was emphasised. A number of practical steps were also outlined including examining existing models for the dealing this type of situation, carrying out research, and dealing more effectively with the problem of homelessness in Ballymun.
