Jim O'Callaghan, Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration: I propose to take Questions Nos. 525 and 527 together.
The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.
The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration does not collate or publish crime statistics. That responsibility rests with the Central Statistics Office (CSO), established under the Statistics Act 1993. Under Section 13 of the Statistics Act 1993, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) is fully independent in its role of issuing statistics.
All of the CSO's recorded crime statistics are available at: https://data.cso.ie/product/RC
The report titled CJA11: Recorded Crime Incidents provides recorded crime information broken down to Garda station level and by type of offence. This is available from the link:
https://data.cso.ie/table/CJA1
Furthermore, the CSO publishes quarterly bulletins on recorded crime and these are also available from the CSO website at: https://www.cso.ie/en/statistics/crimeandjustice/
Notwithstanding the operational independence of the Commissioner, to be of further assistance to the Deputy, I am advised by the Garda authorities that the community response team based out of Coolock Garda Station have a specific focus on illegal activity in the Edenmore area. Garda members continually conduct proactive operations under “Operation Handlebar” and “Operation Meacan” and respond to incidents involving the illegal use of e-scooters and scramblers.
Furthermore, as part of the overall Coolock Community Engagement Functional Area Policing Plan for 2026, the Coolock Community Policing team have been assigned specific portfolios focusing on the illegal use of Motorbikes, E-Scooter, Mopeds and Quads in the area. These members are responsible for developing local intelligence, identifying emerging trends, repeat offenders, engaging with the community and supporting targeted enforcement.
Days of action have been, and will continue to be, scheduled throughout 2026 under “Operation Meacán” in response to local intelligence, emerging trends and identified areas of concern.
These operations will be conducted collaboratively with the local Community Policing team, Gardaí assigned to regular units, and the Community Response team to ensure a coordinated and effective approach. This intelligence-led approach has also resulted in a number of operations conducted in partnership with other specialist units such as the National Garda Dog Unit.
In May 2026 members from Coolock community policing unit supported by the National Dog Unit conducted a planned operation in Edenmore Park. During this operation Gardaí recovered cannabis from the park.
Further proactive activity was undertaken in September 2026 when members from Coolock community policing unit together with the National Dog Unit carried out a planned operation in Edenmore Park. During this operation €65,000 worth of cocaine and €560 worth of cannabis was discovered.
I am advised by the Garda authorities that there is continued commitment to using intelligence, community information and all Garda Resources to identify and disrupt criminal activity in the area.
