Improvements to Scotland’s health have stalled. Our country now has the lowest life expectancy in Western Europe.1 Preventable non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a major factor behind Scotland’s poor health outcomes. Key drivers include the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and related products, and food and drink high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS products, also referred to as ‘junk food’).
