Minister for Health: Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a neuro-developmental disorder caused by prenatal alcohol exposure and can lead to lifelong challenges with learning, behaviour, health, and social skills. 

My Department raises awareness about the risks of alcohol, including during pregnancy. In 2023, the Public Health (Alcohol) (Labelling) Regulations 2023 and the remaining provisions of Section 12 of the Public Health (Alcohol) Act 2018 were signed into law. The law provides that the labels of alcohol products will include a warning about the risk of consuming alcohol when pregnant, in addition to warnings of the risks of cancer and liver disease. This requirement will come into operation in September 2028.
