International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is observed annual in Ireland on 31 August to remember those who have died from overdoses without stigma, acknowledge the grief of families and raise awareness about prevention. In this article, Norma Harnedy, National Liaison Pharmacist at HSE Addiction Services will provide an update on drug usage trends in the younger age group and provide statistics for Ireland, in addition to discussing the features, specific risks of common drugs, and the importance of risk communication and prevention.
