Key findings include:

  • Mental health is the primary concern associated with chemsex among LGBTQ+ people
  • Four in ten LGBTQ+ Londoners who use drugs have never sought support
  • Half are unaware of chemsex-specific support services
  • Mainstream services are often seen as lacking understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences
  • Shame and stigma remain significant barriers to accessing care.

The supplementary report Examining the drug, alcohol, and chemsex experiences of LGBTQ+ people and the healthcare staff supporting them is based on engagement with Antidote service users and healthcare professionals supporting people around chemsex through a survey and focus groups. The finding delve deeper into the experiences of people accessing support for chemsex and the healthcare professionals who support them.

These reports include a number of recommendations to improve support services for LGBTQ+ people who use drugs and alcohol, and who engage in chemsex. They will be helpful to policy makers; commissioners; service providers; front line healthcare staff; community activists; and researchers.
