The following information was compiled in November 2023 and is subject to change as new research is conducted and as new information becomes available.

NMDMSB
Description: NMDMSB is a novel synthetic cannabinoid. NMDMSB is structurally similar to 2F-QMPSB; however, no structurally similar drugs have been detected by our laboratory. In early 2023, forensic laboratories in the United States shared their identifications of this novel synthetic cannabinoid, although the structure of NMDMSB was not confirmed nor reported early on. In May 2023, NMDMSB was detected for the first time at our laboratory; however, the case was not confirmed until October 2023 after acquiring standard reference material.  Due to its novelty, little information is currently known about NMDMSB.

Sample Source: Beaumont Police Department, NMS Labs – Drug Chemistry

Sample Appearance: Red powder, paper samples

Pharmacology: No information is available at this time.

Toxicology: NMDMSB has not been detected in toxicology cases at the CFSRE.

Drug Materials: NMDMSB has been detected in three drug materials at the CFSRE.

Demographics / Geographics: Drug materials originated from the states of Texas, New York, and Illinois.

Legal Status: NMDMSB is not explicitly scheduled in the United States.

MDMB-5Me-INACA
Description: MDMB-5Me-INACA is a synthetic cannabinoid precursor that could be used to produce structurally related synthetic cannabinoid final products. Synthetic cannabinoid precursors (e.g., MDMB-INACA, ADB-INACA, MDMB-5’Br-INACA) began appearing after the implementation of a national class-wide synthetic cannabinoid scheduling action imposed by China in July 2021.

Sample Source: NMS Labs – Drug Chemistry

Sample Appearance: Paper containing no visible residue

Pharmacology: The activity and potency of MDMB-5Me-INACA are unknown; however, based on structurally similar synthetic cannabinoid precursors, MDMB-5Me-INACA is expected to be inactive or have low potency.

Toxicology: MDMB-5Me-INACA has not been detected in toxicology cases at the CFSRE.

Drug Materials: MDMB-5Me-INACA has been detected in one drug material at the CFSRE.

Demographics / Geographics: The drug material originated from the state of New York.

Legal Status: MDMB-5Me-INACA is not explicitly scheduled in the United States.

MDMB-PICA
Description: MDMB-PICA is a novel synthetic cannabinoid with structural similarity to MDMB-PINACA, 5F-MDMB-PICA, and other synthetic cannabinoids. MDMB-PICA was first detected in September 2023 by our laboratory and was confirmed in October 2023 after acquiring standard reference material.

Sample Source: Northern Tier Research (Pennsylvania)

Sample Appearance: Toxicology specimens (extracts)

Pharmacology: MDMB-PICA is an active and potent synthetic cannabinoid.1,2

Toxicology: MDMB-PICA has been detected in seven toxicology samples at the CFSRE.

Drug Materials: MDMB-PICA has not been identified in drug materials to date at the CFSRE.

Demographics / Geographics: Samples originated from the state of Illinois.

Legal Status: MDMB-PICA is not explicitly scheduled in the United States.

MDMB-ICA
Description: MDMB-ICA is a synthetic cannabinoid precursor that can be used to produce MDMB-PICA and other structurally related synthetic cannabinoids. To date, MDMB-ICA has appeared alongside only MDMB-PICA in drug materials and/or toxicology samples tested by our laboratory in the United States. Synthetic cannabinoid precursors (e.g., MDMB-INACA, ADB-INACA, MDMB-5’Br-INACA) began appearing after the implementation of a national class-wide synthetic cannabinoid scheduling action imposed by China in July 2021.

Sample Source: Northern Tier Research (Pennsylvania)

Sample Appearance: Toxicology specimens (extracts)

Pharmacology: The activity and potency of MDMB-ICA are unknown; however, based on structurally similar synthetic cannabinoid precursors, MDMB-ICA is expected to be inactive or have low potency.

Toxicology: MDMB-ICA has been detected in six toxicology samples at the CFSRE.

Drug Materials: MDMB-ICA has not been identified in drug materials to date at the CFSRE.

Demographics / Geographics: Samples originated from the state of Pennsylvania.

Legal Status: MDMB-ICA is not explicitly scheduled in the United States.
