This report presents the findings arising from an evaluation of the Youth Diversion Projects (YDPs), formally referred to as Garda Youth Diversion Projects. These projects support the Diversion Programme which is provided for in the Children Act 2001 (Part 4). YDPs are primarily targeted at 12-17 year old ‘at risk’ youths in communities where a specific need has been identified and where there is a risk of them remaining within the justice system. The projects provide an opportunity for diversion from any, or further, contact with the criminal justice system and this is aligned with the vision set out in the Youth Justice Strategy 2021-2027.
