DUBLIN, IRELAND — On July 15, 2022, several of us received an email titled “Wilton Park Invitation: Reducing the harmful use of alcohol: toward a whole-of-society approach in the Asia-Pacific region” (personal communication). The meeting will be convened later this month, on Monday 26–Thursday 29 September 2022, at The Chateau, Pahang, Malaysia. The email further explained, “Wilton Park is an executive agency of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This dialogue is hosted in partnership with the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD).” A return economy flight and all meals and accommodation will be covered for each participant by the organizers. Forty “stakeholders including regional and international representatives from the health sector, the alcohol industry, behavioural scientists, academia, national governments, international organisations, and wider civil society organisations” will discuss the harmful use of alcohol in an invitation-only event.
