Project Ireland 2040 is the overarching policy and planning framework for the social, economic and cultural development of our country. The Capital Programme provides significant public investment in health infrastructure to meet current needs, to cater for an estimated population growth of one million people and to respond to the changing demographic profile in Ireland. It will also support the realisation of a vision for a high quality, safe, accessible and sustainable healthcare system. The provision of capital funding is enabling this, and in 2022 investment in healthcare infrastructure and equipment will be €932m, plus a further €93m, retained centrally (i.e. not allocated to the Health Vote) within central government contingency funding in relation to capital measures which may be required in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding allocated for 2022 will deliver a range of acute and community projects across the country. A significant allocation of funding to deal with infrastructural risk, replacement of equipment and ambulances is also included. This investment will provide increased capacity in the health system and will support the delivery of Slaintecare.

P.52 Project number 5016, National Programme Provision of additional Addiction Services Facilities. Status: September 2021 - Appraisal.
