The aim of this briefing note is to provide a brief overview of these standards, and to set out, in broad strokes, some of the key principles emerging from these instruments. More detailed guidance on specific issues, including diversion, procedural rights, and the treatment of children deprived of their liberty, is also available in these international standards, and will be discussed in greater detail at a later date.
