In 2017, the percentage of potential years of life lost (PYLL) per 100,000 population due to selected alcohol related causes are average for females (272.2 per 100,000 population, National 298.2) and for males are below average (840.1 per 100,000 population, National 1006.10).

In 2017, Sligo was average for hospital admission for mental and behaviour disorders due to alcohol (88.8 per 100,000 population, National 83.74) and also average for alcoholic liver disease (36.6 per 100,000, National 36.48).

In 2017, Sligo was below average for psychiatric in-patient rates for alcohol disorders for first admissions (5.1 per 100,000 population, National 9.2) and had the highest rate nationally for all admissions (62.6 per 100,000, National 24.1).
