This document details the content of what was discussed in order to ascertain the nature and extent of alcohol related harm in Dublin 12 and initial thinking on the type of components that could be considered in such a strategy.
The first part of the morning was aimed at creating a knowledge base around local reports of alcohol related harm and current issues arising. This included presentations from 3 guest speakers (full copies available on request to D12 LDTF)
• Suzanne Costello (Alcohol Action Ireland), “Alcohol, a national perspective”;
• Suzi Lyons (Health Research Board), “Alcohol in Dublin 12, what we know from the data”.
• Hugh Greaves (Ballymun Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force Coordinator), “The Ballymun approach to alcohol through Community Mobilisation”.
The latter part of the morning was largely aimed at engaging agencies in a collective dialogue looking at possible responses. 4 workshops were formed looking at:
• Young people & alcohol
• Education/prevention
• Treatment & rehab
• Alcohol & families
