The Medical Council regulates medical doctors in the Republic of Ireland. The Council's purpose is to protect the public by promoting and better ensuring high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence among doctors.

Categories of complaint received in 2013: alcohol abuse - 1; drug abuse - 3.

The Health Committee supports both doctors with relevant medical disabilities and those who have provided undertakings to the Fitness to Practise Committee to undergo medical treatment. 45 doctors attended the Health Committee in 2013.
