This document sets out the aims of the Department in tackling the problems associated with excessive alcohol consumption and outlines the main objectives which are to:

• encourage responsible use of alcohol through health promotion and education
• improve treatment and support services
• devise protective measures for individuals, families and communities from the anti-social and/or criminal consequences of alcohol misuse
