The aim of the Southern Health Board (SHB)is to provide comprehensive client-centered services to those affected by substance misuse. The philosophy of the SHB is to aim for abstinence where possible and to provide treatment in the short term when necessary, for example using the methadone protocol. Drug and Alcohol Services are centered at Arbour House in the grounds of St. Finbarr's hospital, Cork. The SHB has established a committee of board members to address the issues of prevention and treatment, and the board is actively promoting programmes which have proven successful in influencing young people's decisions around drug and alcohol misuse.
