This unique study examines whether young people in detention for criminality have deficits in emotional intelligence. Research conducted with 30 young offenders identified over 50 per cent addicted to drugs. A total of 20 per cent were identified as having had an intellectual disability, while 83 per cent were identified as having "at least one psychiatric disorder". The report finds that the majority of these young offenders failed to receive treatment for these disorders.
