The data presented in this paper describe trends in treated problem alcohol use in Ireland and the analysis is based on data reported to the National Drug Treatment Reporting System (NDTRS). In this paper, treated problem alcohol use is described in relation to person, place and time. This paper will assist policy makers, service planners and public health practitioners to develop appropriate responses to problem alcohol use in the future.
