Key 2025 statistics

• The Probation Service dealt with 17,686 offenders in the community and 3,785 offenders in prison.
• The Probation Service completed 11,760 Probation Assessment Reports and 1,892 Community Service Assessment Reports.
• The 1,734 Community Service Orders for 2025 totals 223,259 hours work in lieu of 898 years in prison. This equates to over €3 million worth of unpaid work for the benefit of communities nationwide.
• 19% of referrals in 2025 were female and 81% were male.
• The top six offences resulting in referrals to the probation service and representing 75% of referrals in 2023 were 1. Theft; 2. Assault; 3. Drug offences; 4. Public order; 5. Road traffic; 6. Burglary.
