In 2025, the NSRF continued to collect high-quality national and local data on self-harm and suicide in the general population via the National Self-Harm Registry Ireland and in the prison population via the Self-Harm Assessment and Data Analysis Project. The NSRF remained engaged in providing technical advice to inform WHO’s work in establishing surveillance systems of self-harm and suicide, as well as in implementing and evaluating  national suicide prevention programmes. The NSRF maintained its operation of the Suicide Observatory in Cork and Kerry and consulted with stakeholders to inform development of a national register of probable suicide in mental health services in Ireland.

P.46 Social determinants of suicide and self-harm - research project: 
Identifying the needs of individuals who present to emergency departments following self-harm with co-occurring alcohol and/or drug use, to optimize referral and service provision. The aim of this study is to obtain insights into the experiences of individuals who present to hospital with self-harm and co-occurring alcohol/drug use and to gain understanding of challenges and gaps in their treatment in emergency department (ED) settings. 
Key deliverables and outcomes:
• Preparation of ethics applications to conduct qualitative research with clinical staff and individuals attending community-based centres.
• Submission of brief report of descriptive analyses of clinical management and next care pathways of individuals who present to hospital with self-harm involving alcohol and drugs in the CHO7 area.

P.47 Working Group: Prevention of Paracetamol-Related Intentional Drug Overdose
The current objectives of the WG relate to enhancing information and support training development for pharmacy
and non-pharmacy retail sector staff, collaborating on preventative interventions, and supporting interventions required following market surveillance work regarding paracetamol sales legislation. Evaluation is a core component of the WG and is integrated into the lifecycle of the group.
Key deliverables and outcomes:
• Working Group meetings held on 15th April, 3rd July, 9th October 2025.
• Ongoing dissemination of educational materials regarding safe paracetamol sales to pharmacy and retail settings (Jan – Dec 2025).
• A comprehensive independent mystery shopper exercise of retail and pharmacy settings was conducted on behalf of the WG by PAN Research (March – April 2025).
• Findings presented to the group, to consider appropriate next steps.

P.48 REducing intentional overdose: a mixed methods STudy of means RestrICTion interventions (RESTRICT)
This research aims to reduce intentional overdose by examining the impact of measures to restrict access to drugs. Including three inter-related work packages, this project will examine current trends in self-harm and suicide. It will explore the impact of an intervention to restrict access to drugs, namely the Disposal of Unused Medicines Properly (DUMP) intervention and will culminate in the co-development of best practice evidence and guidance materials to support measures to restrict access to drugs.
Key deliverables and outcomes:
• Revised Data Management Plan.
• Facilitation and documentation of data linkage priorities and systematic review protocols.
• Ongoing collaboration with stakeholders and knowledge users.
• Customisation and review of a project Knowledge, Engagement and Dissemination Plan.
• Ongoing active engagement with Lived Experience Advocate panel and Steering Group, including new recruitment.
• Programme of research and professional development advancements in alignment with Research Fellowship plan.
