Ana Liffey is a ‘low-threshold, harm reduction’ project working with people who are actively using drugs and experiencing associated problems. Ana Liffey has been offering harm reduction services to people in the north inner city area of Dublin since 1982, from premises at Middle Abbey Street. Ana Liffey offers a wide variety of low-threshold, harm reduction services that provide pathways for drug users out of their current circumstance, including addiction and homelessness.

Midwest region

Ana Liffey Midwest region provides harm reduction services in Limerick city and three counties to people affected by problematic substance use, their families, and the wider community. The counties served are Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary.

Annual report

The 2024 Ana Liffey annual report was published in 2025.1 The report noted that in 2024, Ana Liffey serviced 4,511 vulnerable adults who used drugs across Dublin and the Midwest. There were 680 individuals who accessed Ana Liffey's overdose prevention and needle/syringe programme in 2024, while 1,318 clients were provided with assessment, case management and overdose prevention.

The report also noted that 920 people used the ‘VanaLiffey’ outreach harm reduction service to access harm reduction equipment, support and advice. Ana Liffey additionally performed emergency harm reduction outreach out of hours, alongside the HSE in Dublin and Limerick, to provide education and overdose prevention equipment in light of synthetic opioid overdose clusters.
