This page presents four scenarios developed as part of the Synthetic Drugs 2050 foresight project, ‘Increasing EU resilience to possible developments in the availability and use of synthetic drugs in Europe by 2050’. The scenarios are intended to help readers think beyond current trends and consider a range of plausible, diverse and challenging futures. They are not predictions but tools for reflection, dialogue and preparedness. They bring together evidence, expert insight and imaginative exploration to support strategic reflection. Each scenario offers a different view of how synthetic drugs, technologies, markets, regulation, social conditions and public health responses could interact by 2050. Together, they are designed to stimulate discussion about emerging risks and opportunities, challenge assumptions, and support more forward‑looking responses in the drugs field.
