  1. Deputy Pádraig O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of crimes or incidents recorded by An Garda Síochána as having been committed under the influence of drugs in each year since 2021, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [43435/26]

Jim O'Callaghan, Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration: The Central Statistics Office (CSO), as the national statistical agency, is responsible for the compilation and publication of crime statistics.

The CSO produces these statistics using data recorded by An Garda Síochána on the PULSE system and publishes regular releases on recorded crime. The most recent release includes recorded crime up to the end of 2025.

While overall statistics on the influence of drugs in respect of those involved in the commission of reported crime are not available, crime statistics for a wide range of incident types are published annually on the CSO website and are available at the following link:

While a range of criminal acts may be committed under the influence of drugs, the CSO report two specific offences which explicitly refer to a person being under the influence of a substance; offence code 0412, "Driving/In charge of a vehicle while over the Legal Alcohol Limit" and offence code 0413, "Driving/In charge of a vehicle under the influence of Drugs".

The table below has been provided to me by the Garda authorities and outlines the number of arrests for Drug Driving from 2021 - 2026 as of 31 May.

The figures are based on incidents of Intoxicated Driving/In Charge of a Vehicle. A number of these arrests would have occurred in circumstances where both alcohol and drugs were detected.
