Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration: I propose to take Questions Nos. 2004, 2005 and 2006 together.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes all operational policing matters. I play no role in these independent functions.

Road traffic legislation is enforced as part of the day-to-day duties of members of An Garda Síochána, as well as through a programme of high-visibility road safety and enforcement operations carried out in partnership with other state agencies, in order to make our roads safer for all.

The number of fixed charge notices issued for the offences of speeding, mobile phone use and failure to wear a seatbelt are available on the Garda website at the following link, www.garda.ie/en/roads-policing/statistics/roads%20policing%20offences%20by%20region%20and%20division/

Please be advised the number of detections and FCNs issued are the same number for the offences of speeding, mobile phone use and failure to wear a seatbelt as they are derived from Fixed Charge Processing Office data.

Figures are based on incidents which occurred from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025, inclusive. All information contained in these reports is based upon operational data from the PULSE system as was available on 1 April 2026 and is liable to change.

Dáil Éireann debate. Questions 2080 - Road traffic offences [25345/26]

2080. Deputy Johnny Guirke asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of people prosecuted for driving under the influence of alcohol in County Meath from 1 January 2026 to 30 March 2026; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25345/26]

Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration: The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes all operational policing matters. I play no role in these independent functions.

Road traffic legislation is enforced as part of the day-to-day duties of members of An Garda Síochána, as well as through a programme of high-visibility road safety and enforcement operations carried out in partnership with other state agencies, in order to make our roads safer for all.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026, there were 71 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol in the Meath/Westmeath Division.

Of these arrests, 45 currently have a detection status of ‘Detected’ or ‘Resulted in Proceedings’.

Figures are based on incidents which occurred between 1 January 2026 to 31 March 2026, inclusive and are based upon operational data from the PULSE system as available on 07 April 2026 and is liable to change.

It is important to note that it may take some time for an arrest to proceed to a status of ‘Detected’ or ‘Resulted in Proceedings’, so the figures should not be viewed as finalised.

In relation to the prosecution of these cases, my Department does not hold data in relation to prosecutions or court outcomes. Prosecutions are a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The Office of the DPP is not a body under my remit and the Director is wholly independent under the Prosecution of Offences Act 1974. As Minister, I have no role in the operations, functions, oversight or governance of the Office of the DPP.

Dáil Éireann debate. Questions 2082 - Road traffice offences [25348/26]

2082. Deputy Johnny Guirke asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints run by An Garda Síochána during the week of St. Patricks day 14 March to 20 March; and the number of detections of drink driving uncovered at these checkpoints, in tabular form. [25348/26]

I am advised that An Garda Síochána carried out a dedicated road traffic enforcement operation during the week of 14 March to 20 March 2026.

During the course of the operation, An Garda Síochána carried out 1,264 Mandatory Intoxication Testing Checkpoints . A total of 26 positive breath tests were detected at these checkpoints.

Figures are based on incidents which occurred from 14 March 2026 to 20 March 2026, inclusive. This information is based upon operational data from the PULSE system as was available on 9 April 2026 and is liable to change.
