The number of recorded crime incidents of Homicide & Related offences fell by 22 or 25% to 67 in the 12 months to Q3 2025. Recorded crime incidents of Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences fell by 13% to 2,152 while those of Burglary & Related offences fell by 12% to 8,765 crime incidents. Recorded crime incidents for most other offence groups fell with the largest rate of decrease of 24% for Kidnapping & Related offences. Other notable decreases in the number of recorded crime incidents were for Damage to Property & to the Environment offences (-7%), Fraud, Deception & Related offences (-6%), and Offences against Government, Justice Procedures & Organisation of Crime (-5%). It should be noted that crime incidents of Fraud, Deception & Related offences relate only to those reported directly to An Garda Síochána by members of the public and do not include those reported by Financial Institutions as required under Section 19 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2011. The number of recorded crime incidents of Sexual offences remained virtually unchanged at 3,617 in the year to Q3 2025 compared to a year earlier. There were increases in incidents of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences (+3%), Public Order & Other Social Code offences (+2%), and Weapons & Explosives offences (+1%).

The largest percentage decreases were for Homicide & Related offences (-42%), Kidnapping & Related offences (-16%) and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences (-14%). Other notable decreases were in crime incidents of Burglary & Related offences (-7%), Fraud, Deception & Related offences (-6%) and Offences against Government, Justice Procedures & Organisation of Crime (-6%). In contrast, there were increases in the number of crime incidents of Sexual offences (+17%), Public Order & Other Social Code offences (+6%), Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences (+4%), and Weapons & Explosive offences (+4%) (See Figure 2.1, Tables 2.1, and PxStat Tables CJQ01 & CJQ07).

The most notable increases in recorded crime incidents over the period were for Weapons & Explosives offences (+7%) and Public Order & Other Social Code offences (+7%) (See Figure 2.2, Tables 2.1 & 2.2, and PxStat Tables CJQ01 & CJQ07).

Table 2.2 compares the number of crime incidents by offence category between Q1 2024 and Q1 2025. The number of recorded crime incidents fell for eight out of the fourteen offence groups between Q1 2024 and Q1 2025.
The largest percentage decrease over this period took place for:
- Homicide & Related offences where the number of recorded crime incidents fell by 39% or 9 incidents.
- Kidnapping & Related offences – where the number of recorded crime incidents fell by 45% or 20 incidents.
- Burglary & Related offences – a fall of 16% or 406 incidents.
- Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences which fell by 14% or 85 incidents.
- Offences Against Government, Justice Procedures & Organisation of Crime where the number of incidents fell by 15% or 568 incidents.
In contrast, the most notable increases in recorded crime incidents over the period were for Sexual offences (+8%), Controlled Drug offences (+4%), and Weapons & Explosives offences (+3%) (See Figure 2.2, Tables 2.1 & 2.2, and PxStat Tables CJQ01 & CJQ07).
Analysis of changing crime trends since 2022:
Among the other offence groups, there were also notable increases in recorded crime incidents, and these included:
- Weapons & Explosive offences – up 14% from 2,575 crime incidents in 2022 to 2,943 in 2025.
- Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences where the number of crime incidents rose by 12% from 22,106 in 2022 to 24,690 incidents in 2025.
- Offences against Government, Justice Procedures & Organisation of Crime – up 10% from 13,180 crime incidents in 2022 to 14,462 in 2025.
- Homicide & Related offences where the number of crime incidents rose by 8% from 62 in 2022 to 67 in 2025.
The number of recorded crime incidents did however fall in the following offence groups:
- Dangerous or Negligent Acts – down 12% from 8,503 recorded crime incidents in 2022 to 7,492 in 2025.
- Controlled Drug offences which fell by 8% from 17,773 in 2022 to 16,281 recorded crime incidents in 2025.
- Kidnapping & Related offences – down 4% to 152 recorded crime incidents in 2025.
