Walsh, Fiona and Nic Gabhainn, Saoirse (2000) Drug prevention: perspectives on family and community support. In: Family support: direction from diversity. London: Jessica Kingsley. pp. 145-170.

The authors point to recent growth in interest in research into the social context of drug use, especially from non-medical professionals. A number of intervention approaches have been developed relevant to the family, as apposed to an emphasis on primary prevention. The authors examine three aspects of family prevention: the impact of family processes on individual drug usersl working with families in groups; and the approach to family-base therapy from a community perspective.
