Over the past 6 years, sports wagering has become accessible to most individuals in the US via mobile applications or websites. Increasing evidence suggests that sports wagering is associated with greater substance use and misuse, particularly alcohol, and symptoms of alcohol use disorder. Alcohol consumption is higher among sports gamblers, and sports gamblers often use substances while gambling.5 Sports gamblers tend to be more inclined toward risk taking, suggesting that sports gambling may be associated with more risky alcohol use behaviors.
