Key findings for quarter 4 2023:
- Recorded incidents of Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences were up by 26% or 531 to 2,601 between 2022 and 2023, driven mostly a rise in Blackmail or Extortion and Robbery from the Person offences.
- Crime incidents involving Theft & Related offences were up by 12% or by 8,169 to 74,144 incidents over the full year. Nearly half (46%) of the increase was due to a growing number of incidents of Theft from Shops.
- Recorded incidents of Homicide & Related offences were down by 19% to 65 incidents over the year. Most of this decrease was accounted for by a fall in the number incidents classed as Murder offences.
- Crime incidents involving Sexual offences were down 11% to 3,354 reported incidents while those involving Public Order & Other Social Code offences were down by 8%.
- Victims of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences fell by 4% in Q4 2023 when compared with Q4 2022. The number of male victims fell by 4% while the number of female victims was down by 3%.
The number of recorded incidents of Controlled Drug offences remained virtually unchanged over the year.

Key findings for quarter 3 2023
- Recorded incidents of Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences were up by 24% or 485 to 2,471 in the year to Quarter 3 (Q3) 2023. Most of this increase was accounted for by Blackmail or Extortion and Robbery from the Person offences.
- Crime incidents involving Theft & Related offences were up by 16% or 9,904 to 72,340 incidents over the same period. About four in every ten (42%) of the increase in the number of incidents was Theft from Shops.
- Crime incidents involving Fraud, Deception & Related offences were down 27% to 10,629 over the same period mostly due to a fall in incidents of unauthorised transactions and attempts to obtain personal or banking information online or by phone.
- Victims of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences fell by 6% in the year to Q3 2023 when compared with Q3 2022. The number of male victims fell by 5% while the number of female victims was down by 8%.
Controlled Drugs offences remained virtually unchanged at 17,449 incidents.

Key findings for quarter 2 2023:
- Recorded incidents of Homicide offences increased by 31% or 17 in the year to Quarter 2 (Q2) while those involving Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences were up by 21% or 410 to 2,328 incidents.
- Recorded crime incidents classed as Theft & Related offences increased by 25% to 71,284 in the year to Q2 2023 compared with the previous year. Theft from shops, which contributed to nearly half of this increase, was up by 27% over the year.
- Crime incidents involving Fraud, Deception & Related offences were down 37% to 10,300 over the same period mostly due to a fall in incidents of unauthorised transactions and attempts to obtain personal or banking information online or by phone.
- Victims of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences fell by 2% in the year to Q2 2023 when compared with Q2 2022. The number of male victims fell by 1% while the number of female victims fell by 3%.
Crime trends in the Year to Q2 2023 - The largest rates of increase being Damage to Property & the Environment (+7% or +1,530), Controlled Drug offences (+6% or +971) and Offences against Government, Justice Procedures & Organisation of Crime (+6% or +772). In contrast, the highest rate of decrease were in Kidnapping & Related offences (-13% or -21), Dangerous or Negligent Acts (-11% or -957) and Burglary & Related offences (-8% or -819).

Most other categories of recorded crime incidents increased in the year to Q1 2023, with the largest rates of increase being in Homicide & Related offences (+28%), and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences (+20%). Sexual offences rose by 2% over the same period.
There were however decreases in recorded crime incidents involving Dangerous or Negligent Acts (-5%) and to a lesser extent Controlled Drugs offences (-1%).
