The Committee recognises that people from minority backgrounds face additional challenges when using the justice system, including difficulties with language, a lack of familiarity with domestic law and a fear of police or authority because of negative experiences in their country of origin.
The Committee argues there could be improvement in this experience with the provision of adequate training for those involved in the justice system, as well as greater diversity in the system as a whole.
