Commentary...There are parallels underlying eating and the use of humankind's favourite psychoactive drugs (nicotine, caffeine and alcohol), including their oral consumption. Relatedly, current research is revealing how appetite control is adapted to maximize energy intake, such that foods with a high energy-to-satiety ratio acquire a high reward value.
