Minimum Unit Pricing (MUP) came into effect in May 2018, setting a minimum price of 50 pence per unit of alcohol sold in Scotland. Public Health Scotland is conducting a comprehensive, independent evaluation of the evidence of the effects of MUP. Minimum Unit Pricing is an intervention with a complex range of potential effects, and a complex range of factors that may moderate those effects. This protocol describes how we are synthesising the evidence about the effects of MUP. The protocol sets out the context of the evaluation, justifies the methods used and sets out the steps involved.
