Europe continues to have the highest levels of alcohol consumption in the world, resulting in the highest share of all deaths attributable to alcohol consumption. These indicators and alcohol policy responses in the 28 European Union (EU) Member States, Norway and Switzerland in 2016 were analysed and compared with the situation in 2010. Results show that there were no significant changes in the levels of alcohol per capita consumption (the main determinant of harm) since 2010, and highlight that Europe still faces an enormous challenge to reduce the burden that alcohol places on its citizens.
