Strategic Objectives

Action 3.10: Continued development and enhancement of drug services including review of the Irish Prison Service Clinical Drug Treatment Policy
The Irish Prison service Clinical Drug Policy was reviewed and amended during the course of 2012 to reflect best practice guidelines and changes in practice in the community. This work involved consultation with prison and wider community providers of drug treatment services. This collaboration has produced a robust set of policies to guide the provision of drug services in a prison setting and ensure continuity of care in the community upon release.

Action 3.11: Introduction of Drug Free Units in all closed prisons, continued development of drug treatment services and enhanced supply reduction measures
Drug Free Units are operating in 4 closed prisons. Plans are in train to expand drug treatment services in the Medical Unit and Training Unit on the Mountjoy Campus in the first half of 2013.
