SAFE Ireland is the national representative body for women’s frontline domestic violence services in Ireland. We currently have 39 member organisations that provide a range of services and supports to women and their children experiencing or at risk from domestic violence. The majority of our members also advocate for societal change in relation to state and community responses to women and children at risk of violence.
7,797 individual women1 received support from domestic violence support services in Ireland in 2011.
More4 than 3,066 individual children received support from Domestic Violence services in 2011. This figure includes… 2,142 individual children accommodated in refuge and 185 children accommodated in transitional housing. In total there were 3,632 children admissions to refuges in 2011. On at least 2,302 occasions services were unable to accommodate children because the refuge was full or there was no refuge in their area.
